Upgrading to Microsoft 365 isn’t just flipping a switch. Many business owners assume it’s instant — one moment your emails are on your old system, the next, they’re in the cloud. In reality, careful planning is needed to make sure nothing is lost and your business keeps running smoothly.
At Make Me Local, we don’t host email ourselves and we don’t perform the migration. Our role is to advise clients and coordinate with their IT support, so your website and emails continue to work seamlessly throughout the transition.
1. Planning the Migration
Before anything changes, we help clients and their IT support team:
Identify which mailboxes need migrating
Check storage limits and inbox sizes
Confirm who needs access to what
This ensures nothing is overlooked and every mailbox is accounted for.
2. Coordinating Domain & DNS Settings
Emails rely on your domain’s DNS and MX records to know where to go. We advise on the required updates and ensure the IT provider has everything needed to point your domain to Microsoft 365 correctly.
Correct configuration is critical... if it’s wrong, emails can bounce, be flagged as spam, or fail to deliver entirely.
3. Supporting the Migration Process
The actual migration is handled entirely by the IT provider. During this step:
All emails, folders, and calendar items are moved safely
Mailboxes remain in sync across devices
Testing ensures no messages are lost
Our role is to coordinate and provide guidance, making sure the migration aligns with your website and domain setup.
4. Post-Migration Guidance
After the migration, we provide advice to the client and their IT support to:
Reconnect all devices (laptops, phones, tablets)
Verify emails are sending and receiving correctly
Confirm calendars and shared folders are functioning
We don’t touch devices or accounts ourselves, we make sure the process is clear and smooth.
Why This Matters
Many businesses rush or try to DIY migrations, which often leads to:
Missing emails
Confused teams
Frustrated clients
Microsoft 365 is designed for reliability and security, but a successful migration requires planning and coordination. That’s where Make Me Local adds value - we ensure everything is organised and risk-free, even if we aren’t performing the move ourselves.
Moving to Microsoft 365 gives your business:
Secure cloud-hosted email
Large mailboxes with archiving
Automatic syncing across devices
Modern security features like two-factor authentication
We don’t host email or perform migrations, but by guiding and coordinating with IT support, we make sure your emails stay reliable, your team stays productive, and your website continues working seamlessly.
